I just finished Ramses: Son of Light by Christian Jacq (translated from French).

It is historical fiction of the not-all-that-concerned-about-timeline-or-anachronisms style.  Fortunately it was a reasonably fast read.

Ramses and his childhood friend Moses the Hebrew was irritating, but I lived.  (In theory, it's the right pharoah.)

I put up with there being a Chief of Police and a Secretary of State.

When Agamemnon showed up fresh from victory over Troy, I groaned. Off by a century IF we assume the Illiad describes historical events.

Then they got to Ramses making friends with Homer, the blind poet riding along on the ship.  Four or five centuries off, IF he existed.  GAH!

And yet, I did not hurl it away.  It was brain candyish and worked the day I read it.  There are more in the series and I will be saying HELL NO to the rest.

Well, I'll just cross this one off before it arrives on my list of to-reads.

It sounds wretched.
