American Ballet Theatre tonight
Mar. 13th, 2007 11:44 pmThey performed at Northrop this evening, it was a pretty broad range of material.
A Mark Morris piece consisting of dances based on piano exercises; The pas de deux from Swan Lake, a Twyla Tharp piece of ballroom dancing to Sinatra songs and a piece by a choreographer I can't recall about war.
I love watching dance, I enjoy it when it is immediate and relevant, but most of the groups I've seen in the last year, maybe 2 years, have pulled war themed pieces out of their repertoire. I feel like the dance world thinks I need to be hit with a clue-bat. I don't think I do so it is making my slightly peevish.
They should have ended with the Mark Morris piece, he always cheers me up. It's the way he doesn't insist on always pairing boy/girl when couples are dancing I think. That, and the stuff just looks like a lot of fun.
